Edinburgh Violence Reduction Programme (EVRP) 2008-2013

The EVRP is a five year violence reduction strategy to reduce violence launched by the Edinburgh Community Safety Partnership (ECSP). A multi-agency initiative, the EVRP brings together partners including the City of Edinburgh Council, Lothian & Borders Police, NHS Lothian, COPFS, Violence Against Women Partnership, Edinburgh Women’s Aid, EWRASAC, Shakti, Scot-PEP and the National Violence Reduction Unit. The programme asks for long-term commitment from partners to develop and implement policies that will change attitudes towards violence, a recognised path to permanent and sustainable violence reduction.

The EVRP focuses on three work streams:

  • Violence Against Women
  • Alcohol and the Night-time Economy
  • Other Street Violence

Each work stream has a dedicated lead, reporting back into the EVRP Steering Group where activity is co-ordinated on behalf of the ECSP. There is an action plan for each area and performance measures are attributed to each of these actions with identified agencies responsible for implementation.

The EVRP are also involved in encouraging primary prevention activities through supporting work with parents and families.
