The Anti-Violence Campaign 2011 - 2012

The 2011 - 2012 campaign will focus on the key issues of Weapons Related and Alcohol Fuelled Violence and Domestic Abuse. The aim of the campaign is not only for the police to tackle these problems as and when they occur, but to engage widely with a range of agencies in order to raise awareness and develop preventative initiatives.

Weapons Related Violence / Alcohol Fuelled Violence

  • Use of Ferroguard poles within known violence hotspot areas
  • Use of handheld metal detecting wands by door stewards in licensed premises
  • Consistent use of bail conditions to prevent offenders recommitting acts of violence

Alcohol

  • Interagency patrols involving police, environmental and community warderns targeting hotspots areas
  • Use of campus / community officers to communicate alcohol / weapons messages to school pupils
  • Test purchase operations
  • Multi-agency response to "at risk" young people consuming alcohol
  • Use of "Best Bar None" and other pub watch schemes to engage with licensed trade not only in city centre but also in rural areas
  • Consistent use of bail conditions to prevent offenders from returning to licensed premises or hot spot areas

This phase of the campaign will run from 1 June - 31 July 2011
